Baroque

The Baroque movement in painting is an artistic trend that emerged in Italy at the beginning of the 17th century and spread throughout Western Europe, particularly in Spain, France and the Netherlands. It was characterized by religious, mythological and historical themes, as well as grandiose and dramatic subjects. Baroque paintings are known for their high expressiveness, dramatic movements, curved lines and significant use of light and shadow to create a dramatic atmosphere. Baroque painters also used painting techniques such as perspective and chiaroscuro to create a sense of depth. Some of the most famous artists of this era are Caravaggio, Annibale Carracci, Artemisia Gentileschi, Rubens, Van Dyck, Rembrandt, Velazquez, Vermeer, Poussin, and Murillo. Another artist to be mentioned is Jan Davidsz de Heem who is a Dutch artist active during the Baroque period, his still lifes are considered masterpieces of Dutch art.
