Mark Rothko

Mark Rothko is an American painter, born in Latvia, who developed within the American abstract movement a very particular and easily recognizable style, based on flat areas of color covering each other. Working only on very large formats, he obtained recognition during the 1950s before an aneurysm prevented him from painting, which would lead him to suicide.
